YnM Weighted Blanket - 15 lbs, Cotton, Glass Beads

100% Cotton Outer Shell · OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified Fabric · Premium Glass Beads (Not Plastic Pellets) · 7-Layer Construction · 4x4 Inch Bead Compartments · Zero Bead Leakage Stitching · More Beads, Less Fiberfill Design · Machine Washable · Multiple Weights Available

Bottom line:

A well-constructed weighted blanket with an OEKO-TEX certified cotton shell and glass beads instead of plastic pellets, designed to provide even, consistent pressure across the body during sleep. One of the most noticeable physical changes I made to my own sleep routine, and the one I recommend most readily because it requires no supplements, no habit changes, and no ongoing cost after the initial purchase.

Why I chose this

Deep pressure stimulation is one of the more thoroughly researched non-pharmaceutical approaches to nervous system calming. The mechanism is straightforward: even, distributed weight across the body activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the branch responsible for rest and recovery, and reduces the cortisol and adrenaline activity that keeps the mind alert. The effect is similar to what therapists call deep pressure therapy, applied in this case passively through the weight of the blanket itself. For people whose sleep struggles come from a body or mind that will not settle, a weighted blanket addresses the physical component of that directly.
The YnM is the blanket I recommend here because the materials hold up to scrutiny in a category where most competitors do not. The cotton outer shell is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, which means the finished fabric has been independently tested for harmful substances including pesticide residues, formaldehyde, heavy metals, pH levels, and restricted chemical compounds. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tests what you are actually sleeping under rather than certifying how the cotton was grown upstream. It is a finished-product safety certification and a meaningful one, even though it is a different standard from GOTS organic certification.
The weight comes from glass beads rather than plastic pellets. This is one of the more important material distinctions in this category. Plastic poly pellets are the filler in cheaper weighted blankets, and while they are not in direct skin contact, the long-term concern with any plastic fill in a product you sleep under every night is worth avoiding where an alternative exists. Glass beads are inert, have no chemical migration, and are significantly denser than plastic, which means a thinner and less bulky blanket can achieve the same weight. The 7-layer construction distributes the beads in 4x4-inch compartments with three-dimensional lock stitching that prevents beads from shifting into one area or leaking through seams over time. More beads and less fiberfill also means better temperature regulation than blankets that rely heavily on fill material for bulk.
This has been one of the most consistent sleep tools in my own routine. On evenings when my mind is active or my body feels keyed up, the pressure of the blanket short-circuits the spiral before it gets going. It does not work like a sedative, it is more like a physical signal to the body that it can stand down.

What I like about it

  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified cotton fabric, independently tested for harmful substances

  • Glass beads rather than plastic pellets, inert and with no chemical migration concerns

  • Denser glass beads allow a thinner profile than plastic-filled blankets at the same weight

  • 7-layer construction with 4x4-inch compartments for even weight distribution across the body

  • Three-dimensional lock bead stitching prevents bead shifting and leakage over time

  • More beads, less fiberfill design improves breathability and temperature regulation

  • Machine washable on a gentle cycle

  • Available in multiple weights and sizes to suit different body weights and bed sizes

  • Duvet cover options available separately to simplify washing and extend blanket life

  • No supplements, no screens, no ongoing cost once purchased

A note on weight guidance & care:

The standard weight guidance for weighted blankets is approximately 10% of your body weight plus one pound. The 15-pound blanket listed here is well suited for someone around 130 to 150 pounds. YnM offers the same blanket in a range of weights if you need to size up or down. A duvet cover is worth adding from the start since washing the weighted blanket itself is harder on both the blanket and the machine than washing a removable cover. Run it on a gentle cycle with mild detergent, tumble dry low, and avoid bleach. Do not size up expecting more benefit since too much weight can be counterproductive and uncomfortable.

A note on OEKO-TEX vs. GOTS:

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tests the finished textile for chemical safety. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certifies organic farming practices and processing chain. Both are third-party verified and meaningful. OEKO-TEX is particularly relevant here because it directly tests the product you are sleeping under for harmful residues rather than certifying upstream practices. If GOTS certification on a weighted blanket is your priority, options exist but are significantly more expensive and harder to find. For most people, OEKO-TEX on a finished cotton blanket with glass beads is a strong and practical standard.

Bedsure 100% GOTS Organic Cotton Sheet Set - Sateen Weave, Fair Trade Certified

100% Organic Turkish Aegean Long-Staple Cotton · GOTS Certified (Farm to Finished Fabric) · OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified (Certificate No. 18.HPK.48415) · Fair Trade Certified Manufacturing · 300 Thread Count Sateen Weave · 17-Inch Deep Pockets · 4-Piece Set · Machine Washable · Softens With Each Wash · FSC-Certified Packaging

Bottom line:

A 300-thread-count sateen sheet set made from Turkish Aegean long-staple organic cotton, certified by both GOTS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100, the strongest dual certification available in bedding. Soft, breathable, hotel-quality feel from the first wash, and it only improves over time.

Why I chose this

You spend roughly a third of your life in your sheets, and conventional cotton bedding is one of the more significant sources of chemical exposure in the home that most people never think about. Conventional cotton is one of the most heavily pesticide-dependent crops in the world. The residues from those pesticides, along with formaldehyde-based wrinkle treatments, synthetic dyes, and chemical softening finishes, can remain in the finished fabric and transfer to skin during the hours of close contact that sleep involves. For people with sensitive skin, chemical sensitivities, or simply a preference for keeping their sleep environment clean, the difference between certified organic sheets and a standard set from a big box store is more meaningful than it might appear from the outside.
The Bedsure organic sheets carry both certifications that matter in this category, and having both is more significant than having either one alone. GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard, covers the entire production chain from how the cotton was grown through every stage of processing, dyeing, and manufacturing. It prohibits toxic dyes, synthetic finishing chemicals, and formaldehyde treatments, and it requires fair labor practices and safe working conditions at every facility in the supply chain. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 independently tests the finished textile for harmful substances including pesticide residues, heavy metals, formaldehyde, pH levels, and a range of restricted chemical compounds. GOTS tells you how the sheets were made. OEKO-TEX confirms the finished product is clean. Together they provide the most complete verification available for bedding.
The cotton itself is Turkish Aegean long-staple cotton, which is worth understanding because it is what makes this set feel the way it does. Long-staple cotton produces finer, stronger, smoother yarn than the short-staple cotton used in most commodity bedding. The sateen weave, in which more yarn sits on the surface of the fabric, amplifies the natural smoothness of the cotton into a silky, slightly luminous finish that is noticeably different from the standard percale weave most people are used to. At 300 thread count this is a comfortable everyday weight, warm enough for cooler seasons but breathable enough for year-round use. The sheets get softer with each wash and do not degrade in the way that chemically treated conventional sheets often do.
The manufacturing is Fair Trade certified, which means the facility producing these sheets meets independently verified standards for fair wages, safe working conditions, and worker rights. Bedsure's organic cotton line also supports gender equality programs, education access for underprivileged students, and employment for people with disabilities, and their production facilities run on over 25% solar and wind energy with water recycling systems throughout.

What I like about it

  • 100% GOTS certified organic cotton, farm to finished fabric, the highest standard for organic textiles

  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified with a publicly verifiable certificate number, independently tested finished product

  • Fair Trade certified manufacturing, verified labor standards throughout the supply chain

  • Turkish Aegean long-staple cotton, finer and stronger than short-staple commodity cotton

  • 300 thread count sateen weave, smooth and slightly silky finish

  • Softens naturally with each wash without degrading

  • Free from formaldehyde treatments, synthetic dyes, and chemical finishing agents

  • 17-inch deep pockets accommodate thick mattresses and toppers

  • 4-piece set includes flat sheet, fitted sheet, and two pillowcases

  • Machine washable, everyday care

  • FSC-certified packaging, reusable organic tote bag included

  • Social impact programs embedded in the product line

A note on care:

Wash before first use on a gentle cold cycle with mild detergent. Do not use fabric softeners or dryer sheets as they reduce cotton's natural breathability and leave a residue that works against the organic finish. Wool dryer balls (recommended on my cleaning products page) are a cleaner alternative and reduce drying time. Tumble dry low and remove promptly to minimize wrinkles. The sateen weave is naturally smooth and does not require ironing in most cases. The sheets will feel softer after each wash for the first several cycles before reaching their finished feel.

PROMEED 3D Contoured Mulberry Silk Sleep Mask - 23 Momme, OEKO-TEX Certified

100% Grade 6A+ Mulberry Silk · 23 Momme · OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified · 3D Contoured Eye Cup Design · Memory Foam Cups Wrapped in Raw Silk · No Contact with Lids or Lashes · Ergonomic Nose Bridge · Non-Toxic Dyes · Adjustable Elastic Straps · Good Housekeeping Best Bedding Award

Bottom line:

A 3D contoured sleep mask made from Grade 6A+ mulberry silk at 23 momme, independently certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, with memory foam eye cups wrapped in raw silk that create space around the eyes so the mask rests on your brow bone and cheekbones rather than pressing on your lids or lashes. The strongest certified materials combination in this category at this price point.

Why I chose this

Light suppresses melatonin production even at low ambient levels, meaning a streetlight through imperfect curtains, early morning summer sun, or a partner's different schedule can measurably shorten the deeper stages of sleep without you being aware of what is causing the disruption. A well-fitting sleep mask removes that variable entirely, and the quality of what the mask is made from matters because it sits directly against the most sensitive skin on your face for hours at a time.
Most sleep masks fail in one of two ways. Flat fabric masks press against closed eyelids and lashes, create heat buildup, and leave elastic marks on the face. Cheap synthetic satin masks feel smooth initially but do not breathe, absorb moisture from the skin, and often contain undisclosed dyes and chemical finishes. The PROMEED addresses the first problem through design and the second through independently verified materials.
The 3D contoured eye cups are the core functional feature. Memory foam forms the structure of each cup, creating a dome that holds its shape regardless of sleep position. The foam is wrapped in layers of raw mulberry silk so skin never contacts the foam directly. The cups create enough space around the eye sockets that you can blink freely in the middle of the night, lash extensions sit undisturbed, and there is no sensation of pressure against the lids that disrupts sleep or causes discomfort. The ergonomic nose bridge seals the gap at the bottom of the mask where light most commonly enters flat designs.
The silk is Grade 6A+, the highest classification in mulberry silk grading, at 23 momme. Momme is the weight and density measure for silk, a higher number means a denser, more durable, more substantial fabric. At 23 momme this is a heavier silk than the industry standard 19 momme, which translates to a more opaque and longer-lasting fabric that holds up to regular washing better. The OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification is independently verified, meaning the finished mask has been tested by a third-party laboratory for harmful substances including restricted dyes, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and pH levels. Non-toxic dyes throughout.

What I like about it

  • Grade 6A+ mulberry silk, 23 momme, the highest silk quality grade at a heavier-than-standard weight

  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, independently tested finished product for harmful substances

  • Non-toxic dyes, no chemical finishes on the skin-contact surface

  • 3D contoured eye cups hold shape regardless of sleep position

  • Memory foam structure wrapped in raw silk, no foam-to-skin contact

  • No pressure on lids or lashes, free blinking throughout the night

  • Lash extension safe

  • Ergonomic nose bridge seals light gap at the bottom of the mask

  • Adjustable elastic straps for a customized fit

  • Naturally hypoallergenic, breathable, and temperature regulating

  • Good Housekeeping Best Bedding Award

  • Multiple color options available

A note on care:

Hand washing in cold water with a gentle detergent extends the life of both the silk and the elastic. Machine washing is possible on a delicate cycle in a mesh garment bag on cold, but repeated machine washing shortens the lifespan of the elastic over time. Air dry away from direct sunlight. Store in the included travel pouch between uses to protect the silk surface. The memory foam cups maintain their shape over time but avoid compressing the mask during storage, which can eventually distort the cup structure.

A note on silk and animal welfare:

Mulberry silk is a natural fiber but silk production involves silkworms. For readers who avoid animal-derived materials, a vegan alternative would be a cotton or bamboo contoured eye mask, though no synthetic material currently matches the breathability and skin feel of real mulberry silk at this standard. The choice is a personal one.

Nighttime Routine

Genexa Sleepology Melatonin-Free Sleep Aid - 60 Chewable Tablets

Melatonin-Free · USDA Certified Organic · Non-GMO Project Verified · Certified Vegan · Certified Gluten-Free · Homeopathic Formula · Physician Formulated · No Artificial Dyes · No Artificial Sweeteners · No Parabens · No Common Allergens · Natural Vanilla and Lavender Flavor · Made in USA

Bottom line:

A melatonin-free, USDA certified organic sleep aid in a clean chewable tablet with no artificial dyes, sweeteners, parabens, or common allergens. Both my partner and I use this as part of our nighttime routine. A few honest notes on what it is and how it works before you decide if it is right for you.

Why I chose this

Melatonin gets recommended as a sleep aid so frequently that most people assume it is a simple and universally appropriate supplement. For many people it is fine, but for others, including me, it causes a dull morning headache or a groggy, heavy feeling the next day that does not fully clear until mid-morning. The doses in most commercial melatonin products, typically 3 to 10 mg, are also significantly higher than what research suggests is needed for most adults, and the long-term effects of regular high-dose melatonin supplementation are not fully understood. For anyone in that situation, having a genuinely clean, melatonin-free option for nights when sleep feels difficult is useful to have.
The reason Genexa Sleepology fits on this page specifically is the ingredient picture. Most over-the-counter sleep aids, even the ones marketed as natural, contain artificial dyes, polyethylene glycol, synthetic sweeteners, or other inactive ingredients that are worth avoiding if you are trying to keep your chemistry load low. Genexa built their brand around a specific premise: make medicine with the same active ingredients that already exist in conventional products, but strip out every artificial inactive ingredient. The inactive ingredients in Sleepology are organic carnauba wax, organic dextrose, organic maltodextrin, organic rice bran extract, and vanilla lavender flavoring. That is a clean list.
One thing I want to be transparent about because this audience deserves the full picture: Sleepology is a homeopathic product. The active ingredients, which include chamomile, passionflower, valerian, and several other botanicals, are diluted to standard homeopathic potencies ranging from 3X to 12X. Homeopathic dilutions at these levels are not the same as taking a conventional herbal dose, and mainstream medical consensus does not recognize homeopathy as clinically proven beyond placebo. I am not going to claim otherwise. What I can honestly say is that it is part of my own nighttime routine, my partner uses it too, neither of us experiences next-day grogginess the way we do with melatonin, and the ingredient list is as clean as anything in this category. Whether the effect is the homeopathic formula, the ritual of taking something before bed, or both is genuinely hard to separate. I am sharing it as something I personally use, not as a clinically verified sleep therapy.

What I like about it

  • Melatonin-free, no next-day grogginess for either myself or my partner

  • USDA Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, Certified Vegan, Certified Gluten-Free, all independently verified

  • No artificial dyes, flavors, sweeteners, preservatives, or parabens

  • No common allergens including gluten and lactose

  • Clean inactive ingredients throughout, organic carnauba wax, dextrose, maltodextrin, rice bran extract

  • Chewable tablet, easy to take, pleasant vanilla lavender flavor

  • Physician formulated by a medical doctor and homeopathic physician

  • Non-habit-forming

  • Made in the USA

  • Founded by two fathers who set out to clean up the medicine aisle, genuinely mission-driven brand

A note one use:

Take two chewable tablets at bedtime. Works best as part of a consistent wind-down routine alongside other sleep hygiene practices rather than as a standalone intervention. Store at room temperature away from moisture. If symptoms persist beyond three days or worsen, consult a healthcare provider. This product is not intended to treat anxiety disorders or other clinical conditions.

Traditional Medicinals Organic Nighty Night Tea - Passionflower, Chamomile, and Linden

All Ingredients Certified Organic · USDA Certified Organic · Non-GMO Project Verified · Kosher · Caffeine-Free · Compostable Tea Bags · Herbalist-Formulated · Certified B Corp · Nine Organic Herbs · No Natural Flavors · No Synthetic Additives · Steep 10 to 15 Minutes

Bottom line:

A nine-herb organic bedtime tea built around passionflower, chamomile, and linden flower, with every single ingredient certified organic and no synthetic additives anywhere in the formula. One of the cleanest and most thoroughly sourced herbal teas available at this price point, and a genuine wind-down ritual that costs almost nothing per cup.

Why I chose this

Most herbal teas marketed for sleep are a single herb, chamomile or valerian, sitting in a bag that may or may not be organic, flavored with undisclosed natural flavors, and steeped for three minutes before bed. The result is usually something that tastes pleasant but does not do much. Traditional Medicinals approaches herbal tea the way a clinical herbalist would, combining multiple herbs with complementary actions rather than relying on a single plant to carry the whole formula.
Nighty Night starts with passionflower as the primary herb. Indigenous communities across South America used passionflower for centuries to soothe the nervous system and ease sleeplessness, and contemporary herbalism recognizes it as one of the more reliable calming nervines available as a tea. The formula layers in chamomile, which works on the nervous system through apigenin binding, and linden flower, which is widely used in European herbal tradition specifically for soothing nervous tension and supporting relaxation before sleep. Catnip herb and hop strobile round out the calming blend. The remaining ingredients, spearmint, lemon verbena, lemon peel, and lemongrass, provide the flavor foundation.
What makes this the tea I recommend over other bedtime blends is the sourcing integrity. Every ingredient is certified organic, not just organic in the marketing copy but USDA certified with CCOF verification. Traditional Medicinals has their own sourcing standards that go beyond certification, specifying medicinal-grade plants from ethical trading partnerships with organic farms and wild-collection sources globally. They explicitly state that only a small fraction of the world's herb supply meets their quality threshold. This level of sourcing specificity in the herbal tea category is uncommon and genuinely differentiates this product from blends that use whatever is cheapest and available.
The tea bags are compostable. The brand is a certified B Corp founded in 1974 and has operated as an herbalist-led company throughout. No artificial dyes, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives appear anywhere in the formula.
The one practical point most instructions underemphasize: steep this tea for 10 to 15 minutes covered, not the usual three to five minutes. Covering the cup during steeping prevents the volatile aromatic compounds in the herbs from escaping with the steam. The therapeutic value of the blend is significantly diminished by a short steep. Ten to fifteen minutes covered is what the herbalists who formulated it specify, and it makes a meaningful difference in both flavor and effect.

What I like about it

  • Every ingredient certified organic, nine herbs with zero exceptions

  • USDA Certified Organic, certified by CCOF

  • Non-GMO Project Verified

  • Compostable tea bags, no plastic in the steeping process

  • Passionflower as the primary herb, complemented by chamomile, linden flower, catnip, and hops

  • No natural flavors, no synthetic additives, no fillers

  • Kosher certified

  • Herbalist-formulated blend with intentional herb selection, not a single-herb bag

  • Certified B Corp, founded 1974, mission-driven herbal tea company

  • Medicinal-grade sourcing from organic farms and ethical wild-collection partnerships globally

  • Caffeine-free, appropriate for evening use without disrupting sleep architecture

  • Steep 10 to 15 minutes covered for full benefit

A note on use:

Pour 8 ounces of freshly boiled water over one tea bag, cover, and steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Squeeze the tea bag before removing to extract maximum concentration from the herbs. Traditional Medicinals recommends two to three cups late in the day with at least one cup 30 minutes before bed. Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not combine with sedative medications. If you have a known allergy to plants in the Asteraceae family, which includes chamomile, echinacea, and calendula among others, the original Nighty Night is not appropriate. The Nighty Night Extra formula, which uses valerian root and lemon balm instead of chamomile, is formulated specifically for people with that allergy. Do not use continuously for more than two weeks without a break. If sleeplessness persists beyond two weeks, consult a healthcare provider.

Supplement Support

Also Worth Exploring for Sleep

These three supplements are ones I use personally and have written about in detail on the Supplements & Nutrition page. Each one has a specific role in supporting sleep and nervous system recovery, and all three are worth considering if the physical and environmental tools on this page are not quite enough on their own.

Magnesium

Magnesium is probably the supplement I recommend most readily for sleep, because deficiency is genuinely common and the effect is noticeable. It supports muscle relaxation, helps regulate the nervous system's transition from alert to at-rest, and plays a direct role in the production of GABA, the neurotransmitter that quiets neural activity before sleep. If you wake in the night with restless legs, muscle tension, or a body that will not settle, magnesium is often the first thing worth trying. I use a glycinate form specifically because it absorbs well and does not cause the digestive discomfort that magnesium oxide and citrate can.

L-Theanine

L-theanine is an amino acid found naturally in green tea that promotes calm focus without causing drowsiness on its own. For sleep specifically, its value is in quieting a busy or racing mind in the hour before bed without the sedative effect that makes some sleep aids feel heavy the next morning. It is one of the few supplements with solid research behind it for this specific use case. I reach for it most on evenings when the day has not mentally wound down the way the clock has.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha works on sleep indirectly by supporting the body's stress response system. It is an adaptogen that helps regulate cortisol, the hormone that is supposed to be low at night and is often not in people who are chronically stressed or under-recovered. When cortisol stays elevated into the evening it directly interferes with the ability to fall and stay asleep. Ashwagandha does not produce sedation, it supports the hormonal environment that allows sleep to happen naturally. I notice it most over time rather than immediately, which is typical for adaptogens.
